The Spanish export of fresh fruits and vegetables from January to October 2016 fell by 2% in volume compared to the same period of 2015, totalling 9.8 million tonnes, while the value grew by 4.5%, totalling 9,906 million Euro, according to the latest updated data from the General Directorate of Customs, processed by FEPEX.
Vegetable exports amounted to 4.1 million tonnes, 5% more than in the same period of 2015, worth 3,982 million Euro (+6%). It is worth noting the growth of peppers, with 715 million Euro, lettuce, with 502 million Euro, cabbage, with 355 million Euro, and garlic, with 323 million Euro.
The export of fruit has stood at 5.6 million tonnes (-4.8%) worth 5.924 million Euro (+3.7%). The recovery of the volume observed since August has not compensated for the strong decline recorded in the first months of the year, until July. In terms of value, exports have shown a positive performance all year round.
FEPEX expects the volume of exports to continue increasing in November and December, reaching a volume similar to that of 2015, when a record high 12.7 million tonnes was achieved.
