French carrot production suffered from the dry summer

This years carrot production is expected to reach 337,450 tons, 2% below that recorded over 2015-2016. Agreste reports that the decrease is due to unfavourable weather conditions over the spring and “dry episodes at the end of the summer in the main production basins”. Production should return to higher levels in January.

Harvest has decreased by 1% in the West and 5% in the South West. The South East, however, has seen an increase in acreage and yield - harvest is up 20% over the year. Prices increased in November thanks to the weather that led to an increase in consumption. Despite this increase, prices remained 10% below those recorded over 2015-2016 and 8.5% below the five-year average.
