The Spanish Hass avocado season is currently in full swing. “Sales are going well and the prices are fine, they are even slightly higher than for overseas avocados,” says Kenneth Meijer from Spanish producer, Natural Tropic, out of Malaga. During this period, the cultivation company focuses on the domestic market for mangoes.
Mid-sized (8,10,12,14,16) Spanish Hass avocados sell at around 13.50 euro, and the large sizes (20, 22) are also sold at a level between 13 and 14 euro. Sizes 20 and 24 are sold at 10-11 euro, respectively. “Traditionally, demand for Spanish avocados increases sharply in January when companies stop importing from Chile; prospects are therefore positive,” Kenneth says.
Prices for cherimoyas have also increased significantly. “Cherimoyas are characterised by ups and downs during the season, They were quite inexpensive at the start of the season, about 4.50 per box, but prices have recovered to a level between 8 and 9 euro by now,” Kenneth continues.
