The greenhouse pepper campaign was overall positive. The open field produce is destined to the processing industry at set prices. The only problem was the rain in September which affected quality and caused a drop in yields for producers.
"Salads and brassicas are doing well, but the same cannot be said of fennel, as a lot of produce is available. There was an increase in cultivated areas and weather conditions did not help. Next week, though, prices could improve." It's peculiar that such a niche produce as turnip tops are doing really well. Chicory is very popular among the salads."
"In general, commercialisation becomes very lively until three or four days before Christmas. Sales usually increase around 8th December until the beginning of the holidays and they pick up again from December 26th. They then slow down after New Year's Eve and recover in late January/early February. The most popular product between late February and March is strawberries."
A period of heavy market is therefore expected after Christmas.
