Ginger price polarised

The price of ginger has been going up lately. As a reaction of society, after the 'garlic frenzy', the 'ginger fanatics' are also making a comeback. That being said, as soon as the rumour was out, the media jumped in to refute it. They argue that the rising price of the ginger is caused only by a temporary shortage of supply. The ginger that is sold on the market at the moment is basically the old ginger from last year, but the price is unevenly matched. Cheap rinsed ginger goes for about 2.5 RMB, whereas more expensive ginger can fetch a price of up to 4 RMB.

The unbalanced quality and the unstable supply and demand led to the recent irregular pricing phenomenon. Apart from the price being chaotic, fresh and old ginger are also in alternation and the market prices for new ginger also shows a difference between the North and the South. At present, the Northern ginger market is relatively regular with shops selling ginger swiftly at a reasonable price. But in the South, some shops are starting to hoard the ginger to sell it with a higher demand because the market prospects are so hard to predict.
