Packaging with simulated net and 50% recyclable film

VDH Concept introduces two new products at Interpom Primeurs 2016. “These are two world premiere,” says owner Jan van den Heuvel, proudly. “First of all, we have the SQpack packing film, with special perforation and the look of a net. This is very suitable for packaging potatoes, onions and citrus fully automatically. SQpack film is available in a mono-material which is 100 per cent recyclable, or in shining or mat laminated film for a luxury look.”

According to Van den Heuvel, a customer could have various reasons for choosing SQpack. “SQpack packing film is available in all bag designs/film qualities for vertical filling and closing machines. This could be an upright back (doypack), a pillow bag, a side-fold bag or quadro seal. In this packaging, a net weight of 0.5 to five kilograms is possible, depending on the type of film and the design chosen. The large benefit of SQpack film is the perforation made in the film, simulating netting. Film price is more favourable because of this, compared to similar films that have netting made into the film. Considering future waste legislation in Flanders and Europe, the use of packaging made from one material, and which is therefore fully recyclable, will be stimulated. SQpack is not yet globally available in doypack version, which is why its world premiere was at Interpom Primeurs.” At the joint booth of Prins Verpakkingstechniek (Prins Packing Technology) and VDH Concept, two different editions of SQpack and InnoTech packing machines will be introduced.

Van den Heuvel continues: “The second product is the JBreeze Recy. For some years now, we have supplied a LDPE potato film produced with 50 per cent recycled plastic granules to a Belgian supermarket. Because of this, many tonnes of granules are being recycled every year, producing far less CO2 when making the potato film, which is better for people and environment. JBreeze Recy is also cheaper than ‘regular’ LDPE film. The JBreeze Recy with 50 per cent recyclable granules is not yet in use, which is why it is a world premiere.”
