"China: "Kiwi quality is good, but the market is not"

"Due to the hail storms and the extreme weather, 30% less kiwis were produced in China. Market prices have gone up by 35% compared to the same period last year," says Ms. Liu Mei from Chengdu Jintaifu Agriculture

Quality of kiwis irregular
"The production of the yellow kiwis starts at the beginning of October and ends in January. In order to enter the market with a head start, many farmers started the harvest of their kiwis prematurely during this production season. As a result, the kiwis that went on sale early were inferior in size and quality. To a great extent, it extinguished the consumption desire of the people. Moreover, the moment the kiwis go on sale is also the period where other seasonal fruits hit the market full-scale. This means consumers have a large range of options when buying fruits. These factors lead to the strange situation that the kiwi quality is good, but the market is not."

"The yellow kiwi cultivation base of the company is located in Fujiang near Chengdu in Sichuan. It covers more than 66 hectares, the maximum supply volumes for China is 1500 tons and for the export to other countries it is 500 tons. Currently, under the 'Shuxiang Liangpin' brand, the largest part of our kiwis are sold in China, both through traditional sales channels and through the internet. A small part is sold in China with the help of an international trading company. At the current stage, we are actively expanding both the domestic and the foreign markets. We are looking for partners that can help us to reach more people with our tasty, organic and unique kiwis!"
