Trading margins of the papaya from Colima

In September 2016, the monitoring of the prices of Maradol papaya from Colima in the valley of Tecoman Col., and in three selected cities: Guadalajara, Jal.; Querétaro, Querétaro, and Leon, Guanajuato, showed the following quotes:

Prices paid to producers ($/ kg)
The highest price paid to producers of Maradol papaya in the valley of Tecoman, Col., was 8.50/kg, while the lowest price was 7.50/kg. (Source: PROPAPAYA).

Wholesale prices ($/kg)
The Wholesale market of the city of Queretaro, Qro. had the highest wholesale price within the sample cities with 12.87/kg.
The lowest price was recorded in the wholesale market in the city of Leon, Guanajuato: 10.32/kg.

Retail prices for consumers ($/kg)
The highest retail price was recorded in traditional and self-service stores located in the city of Guadalajara, Jal .: 20.27/kg.
The lowest selling price to consumers was recorded in the city of Leon, Guanajuato: 16.32/kg. (Source: INEGI.)

Trading margins (%)
The highest trading margin took place in the city of Guadalajara, Jal, MC.: 170%. The lowest trading margin was recorded in the city of Leon, Guanajuato, MC. and stood at 123%.

Major papaya producing states in Mexico (by tons)
According to data from the SIAP (Agricultural Food and Fisheries Information Service), the states that produced the highest volume of papaya were Oaxaca, Chiapas, Colima, Veracruz, and Michoacan, which together account for 79% of the domestic production (883,859 tons). It is worth noting that, in the same year, the state of Colima achieved producing 108,996 tons which allowed it to position itself third place in the national ranking .
