Salvatore Lotta

Changes in retail may revolutionise relationships with suppliers

The fresh produce world may finally be able to talk rationally to retailers in order to plan and reduce useless costs along the chain.

This is the opinion of Salvatore Lotta, sales manager for Agricola Campidanese PO, which has always looked for a better promotion of produce.

Salvatore feels the arrival in Italy of new operators (such as Aldi) or the sale of Esselunga to a foreign group may change the relationship between producers and distributors.

"Domestic retailers will have to deal with new players and new strategies. Nowadays, for example, we only have supply programmes when we work with foreign retailers."

"We must also consider new purchasing habits. Private Labels may slow down as consumers are now looking to eat differently and engage in a closer relationship with producers."
