Being China's second biggest island, Hainan doesn't only have oceans and beaches, but it is also abundant in natural resources for vegetables and fruits. Apart from mangoes, wax apples, bananas, pineapples, green oranges, guavas, rambutans and sweet potatoes have left the island and entered the world market. Even more kinds of high quality fruit and vegetables are still waiting to be exported. However, the exchange and the distribution of agricultural enterprises, markets and customers between Hainan and mainland China is limited due to the Qiongzhong strait that separates both areas.
The new Hainan's farmers union has brought
local farmers and experts in the agricultural sector together, and made them into a single lobby group. The lobby group has participated in exhibitions, has organized its own events and has taken the important responsibility of connecting people, from inside and outside Hainan, upon itself.
"The farmers union in Hainan was founded in April of 2015. The first subunit of the province opened in Wanning city and was established on 27th of August 2016. The farmers union has already organized close to a hundred events, both online and offline. For instance, the union has made an appearance in an interview on CCTV7's TV show 'Everyday Farmers Knowledge'�. During the interview, the group advised the heads of Hainan's 12 best enterprises to take part in the International exposition of Asian fruit and vegetables in Shanghai. There they created a 'Hainan street'�, which caused a sensation. The media were fighting to be first to report the event. Their act set an example for the other members of the farmers union. The union also cooperated with the China Communications and Transportation Association, in setting up some training seminars, which mainly informed the attendants about the preservation, the distribution, the storage and the sale of agricultural products, and other related topics," says Wang Zhiqiang, head of the farmers union.
"Hainan's farmers union has just gone through more than a year of developments and has established two large communities, with a total of 800 members. The majority of the members represents outstanding firms that produce fruits and vegetables of high quality. Thanks to the support of those big firms and big farms, the farmers union is able to let consumers all over the country taste our fruits and vegetables, and continuously promote our local products."
