According to the manager of Agricultural Veterinary, from Quimica Suiza Industrial (QSI), Carlos Komatsudani, Peru will export 24,000 tons of blueberry in 2018 and displace Argentina as the second largest exporter in the world.
The businessman said that, to achieve the goals set in the technical field, they should continue developing solutions that address the main problems of cultivating blueberries.
"The main areas of blueberry cultivation, for export, are on the coast. Peru's challenge, to achieve sustained growth, is to adapt this crop to each producing area, most of which have limiting conditions," Komatsudani said.
Currently, the United States is the main destination for Peruvian blueberry exports. It is followed by the Netherlands, England, Spain, Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Germany. According to QSI, this year's exports are expected to amount to nearly 16,000 tons.
The company also said that the trip to China by President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and other authorities of the political, business, and commercial sectors, would serve to expand the network for blueberry exports.
