Nicaragua receives $60 dollars per ton more for exported bananas

The value of Nicaraguan banana exports, between January 1 and September 25 of 2016, increased by 14.4 percent over the same period of 2015.

Statistics from the Center for Export Procedures (CETREX) show that in this period of 2016, Nicaragua exported 17,412 tons of bananas worth 7.17 million dollars. In the same period of 2015, the country exported 17,453 tons worth 6.27 million.

The 14.4 percent growth in revenues was driven by a 17 percent increase in the average selling price, which went from US $350 per ton in 2015, to US $410 per ton in 2016. That is, the country has received an additional $60 dollars for every ton of bananas it has exported.
