More Chilean fruits to be exported to China

According to the report of Chilean newspaper El Mercurio, "2016 Chile Week" is to be inaugurated in Guangzhou Jiangnan Market, the main port for Chilean fruit and vegetable imports into China.

Mr. Ye Canjiang, the chairman of Jiangnan market, explained that Chilean fruits account for 18% of their overall imported fruit volume. The main fruit varieties include cherry, blueberry, apple, grapes, plums and kiwifruit. If calculated by imported volume by country, Chile is only behind Thailand and the US. More importantly, its imported volume increased in recent years at an average rate of 10%.

Mr. Ronald, the chairman of ASOEX, the Chilean Fresh Fruit Association, said that the Chinese market will soon open its doors to Chilean nectarines, and the Chilean Agriculture and Livestock Service (ASG) is now finalising the entry standards with the China Quality Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.

"We hope that the Chinese government can issue the entry permit, so that our nectarines can be imported to China in November. China is an important market for Chile."

Ronald estimated that at least 1 million boxes of nectarines (with a price of 20-25 US dollars per box) could be exported to China, which would account for 15% of its overall exported fruit volume to China. Moreover, Chile will soon start its negotiation process with China regarding the entry permit for their pear and orange export.
