Peru seeks to strengthen its fruits and vegetables at the Asia Fruit Logistica

A Peruvian delegation of more than 60 companies is participating in the Asia Fruit Logistica International fair. According to projections, they will conduct business worth $110 million dollars, giving a boost to the sector's strategy to strengthen itself in Asia, PromperĂș stated today.

Asia Fruit Logistica 2016, a fair specialising in fruits and vegetables, held between September 7 and 9 in Hong Kong, opens its doors again to Peru's varied and attractive supply, stated the Commission for the Promotion of Peruvian Exports and Tourism (PromPeru).

60 Peruvian companies will participate in the fair in a search to establish new business contacts with representatives worldwide. 478 exhibitors from 38 countries and 8,100 visitors from 64 countries attended the previous Asia Fruit Logistica.

The fair will allow the Peruvian companies to promote the Peruvian supply of fruits and vegetables, and to increase their presence in the Asian market. The Peruvian companies will present and negotiate for their products, such as blueberries, grapes, tangerines and avocados, in 204 square meters.

500 business contacts
The Peruvian delegation estimates that they'll make 500 commercial business contacts and more than 110 million dollars in business for the next twelve months, i.e. 8.2% more than they achieved in the 2015 version of the fair.

The companies are participating in the fair with the support of the Peruvian-German Chamber of Commerce, the Union Association of Agricultural Producers of Peru (AGAP), and with the collaboration of several Peruvian trade offices (OCEX) in Asia.

The group's participation at the Asia Fruit Logistica takes place within the framework of the government's actions for the first 100 days of management, which includes the promotion of exports, income, and the presence of certain products in the Asian market.

The event will be complemented by the participation of the exporting companies in the ExpoAlimentos Asia 2016, a programme to promote business conferences and seminars on Peruvian supply in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul, New Delhi, and Jakarta.

Exports
It's worth noting that a third of the free trade agreements that Peru has signed have been with countries and economic blocs from Asia, such as Japan, China, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and the recently signed Transpacific Partnership Agreement (TPP).

According to Promperu, this implies that the Peruvian companies have business opportunities in this region, .

Currently, the Asian market accounts for 15% of Peruvian fruit and vegetable exports (279.7 million dollars), i.e. 2% more than in the last year.
