Chilean fruit at the Great Wall of China

Guests at the "Chile in the Sky" event, which was organised as part of Chile Week, China 2016, were able to enjoy various Chilean national export products, such as rich and healthy fruits, wines, and other products on the Great Wall of China.

The activity was led by former President Eduardo Frei, the ministers of the Economy, Luis Felipe Cespedes, and of Agriculture, Carlos Furche; the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Pedro Huichalaf, the director general of Direcon, Andres Rebolledo, as well as participating private sector representatives, such as the President of the Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile AG (ASOEX), Ronald Brown.

The goal of the event was to promote Chile to the Chinese press through a cultural, tourist, and gastronomic presentation. The presentation allowed the press to get to know and enjoy the flavours of the country, the Rapa Nui culture, which is one of the most requested tourist destinations by the Chinese, and the Chilean skies, some of the clearest skies in the world. Thus, the public got to engage in some astronomical tourism and scientific observation.

"Chile wanted to celebrate the long tradition of bilateral relations between the two countries through this event," said the former president, Eduardo Frei. Chile pioneered good relations with China, as it was the first Latin American country to support negotiations for China's accession to the WTO, to recognise its huge market potential, and it was also the first Western country to sign a free trade agreement with the Asian country.

Ronald Brown, president of ASOEX said: "Once again we are present with our fresh fruit export supply, supporting the actions of Chile Week in China, through which we seek to strengthen and position Chile as an agricultural power. The event was organised by ProChile to launch Chile Week activities officially in Beijing, and it was held at the Great Wall of China, a beautiful place that has great historical significance for the Chinese. It was the perfect place to showcase our fruits."
