In order to mitigate the effects caused by the ash emanating from the Turrialba volcano, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) and the National Emergency Commission (CNE) began the delivery of inputs worth nearly 52 million colones to support the agricultural sector in the East Central region.
According to Guillermo Flores Marchena, Regional Director of MAG, these resources will aid 340 producers of cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, potatoes, carrots, onions, strawberries, beets, tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, cilantro, and passion fruit, that grow their crops in nearly 412 hectares. The delivery of the aid began this August in the MAG agencies at Coronado, Llano Grande, Tierra Blanca, and Pacayas.
In addition, MAG officials will provide technical assistance and training to the affected farmers and the agricultural sector will promote research in order to generate alternatives and production options.
The agricultural sector also provides technical assistance and support to producers affected by the fumes from ash generated by the volcano.
