Peru: Camposol makes first shipment of mandarins to Brazil

The Camposol company made its first shipment of mandarins to Brazil via the Interagency Cooperation Agreement that was signed by MINCETUR, PromPeru, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MINAGRI), and the National Service of Agrarian Health (Senasa).

In its first shipment of mandarins to Brazil, Camposol sent 22,800 kilograms of the W. Murcott variety, a mandarin that is known because its main characteristics are that it is an easy peeler and a seedless fruit.

The commercial launch of the product took place in May at the Fair of the Association of Supermarkets from Sao Paulo (APAS), where the Peruvian exporters of citrus began negotiations with Brazilian businesses to export their fruits there.

The Peruvian mandarins are sold in Sao Paulo's Central Market, Latin America's largest wholesale market and the main distribution center of fruits and fresh vegetables in the city of Sao Paulo.

Brazil, which has more than 200 million people, represents an important new market for Peruvian citrus, as annual exports could surpass 5 million dollars. It's worth noting that the production of mandarins that are to be exported to Brazil come from the fields of the Camposol company that are located in Trujillo (La Libertad).

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) stated that the Commercial Office of Peru in Sao Paulo was giving support to agricultural exporters in order to reduce health barriers.

The Mincetur said they had been working to lift the restrictions on cut flowers, blueberries, passion fruits, peppers, pomegranates, and to expand the areas that are allowed to export tomatoes.
