Xavier Cardenas, of Agrosoft:

"Ecuador: "Results in the blink of an eye, and in the language of the producer"

Doing business and increasing productivity without machines or computers? Unimaginable for any experienced exporter, but a very common reality for small and medium producers who are just entering and specializing in foreign trade, as it can be a very difficult process to manage. With 20 years of experience, Xavier Cardenas, the founder of Agrosoft Ecuador, provides solutions to these problems: "A simplified production software is the solution for many producers. Some primary data and a record of the crop area are enough to create a whole set of statistics and graphs that normally would take a long time to perform and analyze," he said.

"We started talking the same language as banana producers, as we use a concept we call crop intelligence per farm and lot, which allows us to create production statistics, trends and indicators with very little data. We then take these indicators to a geo-referenced map of the farms, marking the areas with different traffic light colors (red-critical, yellow-preventive, green-optimal) depending on the situation and condition of the plantations or lots. Our software is very friendly for the producer and it is very easy to interpret what is happening in the culture without calling technicians and agronomists. It is not necessary to review various reports, as all statistical indicators are in one softwarethat gives producers a broad overview of the actions they need to take in their farms and lots," said Cardenas.

The vast majority of producers want to know how much their plantations are costing them, specially when they have unexpected changes in the production process, and it normally is very tedious and time consuming to recollect this information. The next step in the automation of processes is to incorporate the registry of costs into the production process. "Producers can incorporate relevant data in a template so that the software calculates costs. For example, this software can calculate the economic impact that an increase in production or a plague would have per hectare or box. Decisions are no longer made only by the production department, but also by the accounting department," the spokesman emphasized.

"Producers can have reports in a blink of an eye and improve the efficiency of production resources and production costs. These reports can be read both from a computer or from any mobile phone. This marks a new trend, as we integrate software solutions in hardware technologies that already exist. Despite this sounding very complicated and expensive, our technologies are available to medium and large companies. We are working on internet services for small producers, to whom we wouldn't the software, but a service , which would make it more accessible for small producers, which are the basis of the productive pyramid in South America," concluded the representative of Agrosoft.
