China: Banana sales drop

Banana prices continue to drop, so do their sales. As the temperature increases, bananas will gradually leave the market, while other summer season fruits such as watermelons and peaches take their place. The low consumer demand for bananas keeps pushing the sales to hit low levels.

Generally speaking, the high temperatures of the bananas origins makes it difficult to store them for long. In certain regions such as Pingdianshan city in Henan province, Wurumuqi in Xinjiang, and Xi'an city from Shaanxi province, the temperature goes up to 35 degrees, and it even rose to 37 degrees in other regions.

As less and less fruit dealers are interested in banana purchases, the growers are getting very anxious. Currently the banana sales only accounts for 20% to 30% compared to that of the peak season. It is estimated that the sales will continue to drop within the following days.
