Turkish company ready to conquer more of Europe
According to FINKUM Europe, Commercial Director, Cem Varnatopu, whose parent company is in Turkey, chose the Netherlands as it serves as the vantage point for fresh fruit and vegetable export / import business around the world.
Cem who holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and also a professional who has worked in the fresh fruit and vegetable sector for over 20 years teamed up with the founder of FINKUM, Hakan Arıkan and FINKUM Europe was born.
FINKUM parent company is based in Antalya, Turkey and has been in operation since 2003. The company exports cherry, black fig, sultana grape, pomegranate, apricot, peach, tomato, among others to Europe, the Middle East and Far East, with an average of 15,000 tonnes per annum, of which 1,500 tonnes comprise of black fig.
FINKUM has four major facilities in Turkey namely, Antalya for vegetables, Bursa for black fig, Aydin for chestnut and black fig, and Manisa for grape. They buy the products from contractual local producers and then they pack and distribute them. With the wide range of producers and the company’s quality control team, it has maintained its high-quality supply of fruit and vegetables throughout the season.
As much as the cherry production in Turkey this year is expected to be lower than previous years, this hasn’t dimmed FINKUM Europe’s hopes of getting its market share.
According to Cem, FINKUM Europe plans to start exporting superior grapes by July 20, while set to start exporting sultana grapes which will be its main product, by the first week of August. Black fig exports are to start by the second week of July and this year, FINKUM’s black fig brand, "Royal Fruit" will be exported not only to Central Europe and Scandinavia, but also to the Middle East and Far East. With the new company, FINKUM Group expects to increase its exports from 15,000 tonnes to 20,000 tonnes in the next two years.
