Turkish crop production up on previous year

Increase was expected in the production of fruit and vegetables in the first estimation of 2016 with rates of 6.4% and 1.7% when compared with the previous year. Production quantities of vegetables, fruits in 2016 were predicted approximately as follows; 30.1 million tonnes for vegetables, 18.9 million tonnes for fruits.



Vegetables
Vegetable production in 2016 was estimated to be approximately 30.1 million tonnes with an increasing rate of 1.7% when compared with the previous year.

When examining production of subgroups of vegetables, root and tuberous vegetable production was expected to increase by 5.9%, other vegetables elsewhere classified with a rate of 2.6% and vegetables cultivated for their fruits were expected to increase by the rate of 1.2%.

The production of some important crops in vegetables; increments were expected in dry onion production by 10.5%, in melon by 7.9%, in eggplant by 5.3%, in pepper for processed by 7.7% respectively, while decrements were expected at 3.3% in carrots, 0.9% in watermelon respectively.

Fruit
It was estimated that fruit production will be 18.9 million tonnes in 2016 increasing by 6.4% when compared with the previous year.

When examining productions of some important fruits, it was estimated that there is an increase in apple figures with the rate of 12.3%, in peaches by 3.8%, in cherries by 11.8%, in apricot production with a rate of 7.4% respectively, while decrements were expected in grape fruits by 0.7%, when compared with the previous year.

In the citrus group, an increase was expected in mandarin production by 12%. From nuts, hazelnuts production is expected to decrease by 18%.

It was estimated that grape production will increase by 9.6%, while decrements were expected at 0.8% in persimmons production.
