Trending vegetables are key ingredients in Mann’s new Nourish Bowls™

Kohlrabi, butternut squash, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, kale, and sugar snap peas take center stage in a new product line from Salinas based Mann Packing.

“Mann’s Nourish Bowls were developed internally with a desire to create a healthy, warm single-serve meal with fresh veggies, grains and sauce, ready in three to four minutes,” explained Jacob Shafer, communications specialist at Mann’s, adding that the bowls were also created with a nod to the culinary world.

“We partnered with a panel of three San Francisco Bay Area chefs to help us develop the flavor profiles that include Monterey Risotto, Sesame Sriracha, Smokehouse Brussels, and Southwest Chipotle,” said Shafer.

Mann’s, located in the center of the aptly named Salad Bowl of the World, relies on local, national and international growers.

“We focused on our core vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, kale, Brussels sprouts and sugar snap peas and added some trending veggies such as sweet potatoes, butternut squash and kohlrabi,” explained Shafer.

As for those trending vegetables, research led the way in what vegetables to include in the Nourish Bowls.

“We looked at foodservice trends across the US that alerted us to the increased use of these vegetables in menu offerings from fine dining to QSR restaurants, along with data for core and premium vegetables that are showing strong growth,” said Shafer, while company Chairman & CEO Lorri Koster remarked on the fact that the product has been successful on a larger scale.

“Healthy bowl-based meals are very popular in foodservice, so it’s natural to bring a product like Nourish Bowls to retail,” said Koster, adding that they expect the products to be welcomed addition to the grocery store.

“We fully expect this new line to do for the cut-veg category what single-serve salad bowls have done for the salad category. Sales performance during our initial rollout has far exceeded our projections. Consumers are loving these products,” adds Koster.

The products retails between $3.99-$4.99 and has a 16 day shelf life.

Nourish Bowls will be officially unveiled and on display at the United Fresh show in Chicago, June 20-22. They will be at the Featured Product Showcase and in booth #1823.
