Kurt De Smet, K&E Trucking:

"Daily groupage from south France to Benelux"

Looking back at 2015 it hasn't always been easy in the transport sector. "2015 was a difficult year for every transporter I think. Thankfully the diesel price has started to decrease strongly, which made our profit margin positive. 2016 looks good. We expect the diesel price to remain stable," says Kurt De Smet of K&E Trucking.

The international company K&E Trucking was founded in 1997 and is mainly focused on southern France and Italy. The fleet has 60 combinations. They carry vegetables, fruit, meat, fish and dried goods on the way there. On the way back it is mainly vegetables and fruit, both full loads and partial loads within the Benelux.

Punctuality
The company takes take of groupage sendings from south France to the Benelux every day. "The lines (there and back) that we are specialised in are: Perpignan, Marseille, Valence and Lyon towards Benelux. Also Perpignan, Toulouse, Brive La Gaillarde towards Benelux, as well as Bologna, Modena, Milan towards Benelux. We drive with food every day and punctuality is our trademark. On time delivery is very important to our customers and they are happy with this. If you achieve brand awareness in a positive way you can only grow. Our customers are great: they make us strong. We also have great staff and and materials," according to the manager.

Definition
He believes transport will always be a challenge. "Competition will always be there and that is why it's important to define yourself from the rest as a company and to specialise. Our speciality is groupage of fruit and vegetables." The costs of transport are increasing. "We are trying to find a solution for this by taxing this through to our customers in small percentages. This is only a small charge per customer. The focus isn't on growth this year. "We want to hold onto what we have and continue to guarantee our customers the perfect service." Yet the company isn't saying 'no' to new customers. "There may be investment in the right new customers," concludes Kurt.
