Fresh Food Corridor:

2nd test train reaches Hamburg 44 hours after leaving Fos

On Monday 23rd May 2016, the second train of refrigerated containers being tested in the European “Fresh Food Corridor” project arrived in the fruit and vegetable terminal of Hamburg port, only 44 hours after leaving the Seayard terminal in Fos.

Operated by Eurorail, the convoy transported 34 containers measuring 40 feet. They were transported from the Israeli port, Haifa, on the “Skyline” (Cosco) which carried out the entire Haifa/Hamburg journey via Fos in under 8 days, which would have been impossible by sea.

This conclusive test reconfirms the efficiency and pertinence of a logistics transport corridor for fresh produce from the Mediterranean basin to Northern European markets via the Marseille Fos port.

On the 12th April, the first train successfully proved the efficiency of a maritime-rail link between Ashod Port (Israel), Fos and Rotterdam.

The “Fresh Food Corridor” pilot project is proof of real innovation in cold chain logistics.

It also strengthens the position of Marseille Fos Port as a Euro-Mediterranean gateway, proving it’s capacity, and that of its partners to ensure a reliable service and offer innovative transit times.
