Senegal produced 367,000 tons of onions in 2015

A document monitoring and analysing agricultural and agrifood policies (Sapaa) in Senegal has revealed that “The total onion production reached 367,000 tons in 2015, recording a 70% increase per year over the last 10 years”.

The document adds that the onion sector has benefited from budget supports. The Sapaa complains that “Even if the good performances recorded in onion production have allowed to reach an initial target of self-sufficiency fixed for 2016 in 2015, the deficit in stocking and preservation facilities does not allow to ensure regular supply on the markets throughout the year”.
