Greek garlic may be more expensive this season

According to Pasiali Konstantina of the Greek cooperative Aspee, devoted to the cultivation and sale of garlic and onions, "As opposed to other origins, like China, our garlic stands out for its strong flavor and aroma. Aspee’s garlic with a total production of 5,000 kilos last year and expected to increase to 6,000 kilos this season, 80% goes to the local market with some volumes to Germany, Cyprus, Australia and Belgium. We've started exporting to Romania as well."

Pasiali describes garlic as a difficult product. The volume of Greek garlic available this season is estimated to be smaller than last year. She thinks that garlic will be more expensive and it may reach 3 to 3.20 Euro per kilo.

Aspee works mostly with supermarkets, flexible with their demands such as packaging. “Greece is quite a competitive market, so every year we aim to obtain a very good quality product. In a more global scale, we have all the necessary certifications that allow us to sell the garlic to any market in the world.”
