UK veg specialist celebrates sport's latest literary crop

An opportunity to shine a light on emerging writing talent at the national Cross Sports Book Awards has been taken up by Lincolnshire fresh chilled vegetable and salad specialist Freshtime UK Ltd.

The annual Cross Sport Book Awards, now in its 14th year, promotes the outstanding sports writing and publishing from the previous year and showcases authors in 10 different categories.

Freshtime first sponsored the awards in 2015, championing the Outstanding General Writing category which saw Bill Jones take the title for Alone: The Triumph and Tragedy of John Curry.

This year the company has chosen to support the fresh faces joining the sports writing scene by sponsoring the New Writer of the Year category. The shortlist was announced on May 3rd and can be found via the Cross Sports Book Awards website: www.sportsbookawards.com.

Freshtime is dedicated to promoting an all-round healthy lifestyle and sport plays a big part in its commitment to the local community.

Not only does the company sponsor games at Boston United FC, but in 2015 it also paid for a new sports kits for Boston West Academy’s mixed netball team, Spalding United’s Under 12’s football team and Fresh Produce Journal’s netball team.

Mark Newton, Freshtime’s Managing Director, said: “We’re always keen to get involved in the promotion of healthy lifestyle choices – everything from producing healthy food, to teaching children about where their food comes from.

“The Cross Sports Book Awards present us with an opportunity to celebrate some of the inspirational sports writers of the year and I’m looking forward to seeing what the shortlist has to offer in this year’s New Writer category.”

Representatives from Freshtime will attend the ceremony at Lord’s Cricket Ground on 1st June 2016 to present the New Writer award to the winner.
