Oranfrizer: we grow the future of citrus

The Sicilian citrus company, in this new edition of the Parma's Exhibition (Cibus 2016), will show to the visitors a selection of grafts, the earliest flowering buds that give rise to new citrus trees. Everybody will approach the selection of small mother plants to discover "the citrus of future" with an interactive system.

Moreover, together with the chef Carmelo Chiaramonte, the participants will taste many innovative recipes with red oranges as main ingredient and citrus fruits that reach their perfect ripeness during the Spring.

This year Oranfrizer has received the "Fruit of Italy Award 2016", its gardens are located on the slopes of the Etna volcano, the company has already planted 80,000 mothers seedlings. These ones, in three years, became fruitful trees of blood oranges Tarocco Ippolito, Tarocco Sciara, Tarocco Meli, Tarocco Sant'Alfio, trees of triploid mandarin as Mandared, Mandalate, Taclè, and also lemon trees of Femminello from Siracusa 2KR and more; there is also the Pomegranate.

Nello and Alessandro Alba's company valorizes the blood orange biodiversity and explains how the business develops: thanks to exhibited samples at Cibus 2016, it will be possible to discover intuitively Oranfrizer's revolution thanks to important investments that promote the research and the varietal innovation in Sicily.

The objectives are to raise the quality of Sicilian red pulp citrus fruits and expand the harvesting calendar from December to May, increasing the consumption.

The investment in agriculture realized by Oranfrizer exceeds 3 million Euro. In order to proactively face against the Tristezà virus, all infected trees already poor in fruits and destined to wither have been eradicated.

In their place, Oranfrizer planted 18 different citrus cultivars on 6 different rootstocks tolerant to the Tristezà virus, and also two varieties of pomegranates. Some of the planted clones are the result of CREA research (Research Centre of Acireale) and DOFATA Agriculture Faculty of Catania University.

From research, till the end user, Oranfrizer always aims to new and easy consumer habits, suggesting through a workshop that citrus fruits are not delicious only to eat and to squeeze, but also to cook with!

Surrounded by real trees and all colorful citrus - on May 9th and 10th from 11:30 a.m. to 02:30 p.m at the Hall 4 in the Booth C 012 - the workshop "Spring of citrus in kitchen" led by the chef Carmelo Chiaramonte will take place, to taste unexplored recipes made with the new late citrus planted by Oranfrizer.

After kilometers of cookbooks crammed with jam, orange ducks, various juice mix and genuine cakes, Carmelo Chiaramonte during his gastronomic monologue about citruses, will show many culinary remedies, simple and useful ideas to appreciate daily red citrus and not only in cold Winters, but also during the mild Springs.
