Amazon begins Milan fresh fruit and veg sales
A few months after launching its Prime Now service in Milan, offering one-hour delivery on around 15,000 items, the e-commerce giant has now begun fresh fruit and vegetable sales in the northern Italian city. Users who have downloaded the Prime Now app can order around 30 types of fruit and vegetables for delivery within two hours between 8am and midnight, seven days a week. The service is available in Milan and 34 localities in the Milan area, with one-hour delivery available for an extra €6.90. Amazon already offers a wide range of non-perishable food and cleaning products via Prime Now. (telecompaper.com)

German retailer Kaufland goes online

German retailer Kaufland has taken the first step for the development of e-commerce segment. The company announced that it is ready to start their own online sales department, which will operate under the umbrella brand Kaufland Omni channel International GmbH. Record fall in food sales in Scotland
Retail leaders in Scotland have called on ministers to take action to boost the sector following a washout January when food sales fell at a record rate. The Scottish Retail Consortium found total sales of food plunged by 5.8% last month compared with the same period last year as some of the wettest January weather for a century kept shoppers away from stores. Albertsons acquiring small Idaho chain
Albertsons said Monday it has agreed to purchase four Paul’s Markets in Idaho, with plans to reopen them under the Albertsons banner. The stores are located in Boise, Homedale, Kuna and McCall, Idaho. Paul’s said it will close its three other locations in Caldwell, Mountain Home and Nampa, with Albertsons set to acquire those properties as well. (supermarketnews.com)

World’s first vegan supermarket chain to open in Portland
Vegan products are usually relegated to a tiny section in conventional grocery stores, but Portland, Oregon will soon be home to an entire vegan supermarket. Lidl plans to conquer Luxembourg with focus on fresh food
Lidl has shed light on its expansion strategy for Luxembourg as it seeks to open another 12 stores in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The retailer divulged the information in a press release surrounding its 8th new store, in Strassen. By 2023, Lidl wants to have 19 stores in Luxembourg. Supervalu remains Ireland’s number one retailer with 25% of the grocery market share, the latest data from Kantar Worldpanel shows.
