Mangos: shortage in airfreight products expected

The quality of the exotic fruit has suffered lately. “El Nino caused heavy rains in the last weeks,” states Gerhard Dressel, “These heavy rains have flooded several plantations and led to an early end of the season in North Brazil.” 

The company Ludwig Blendinger is a fruit wholesaler with a rich history of traditions established at the wholesale market in Munich. Since 1970 the family business has been cooperating closely with producers all over the world. The fruit that the company imports by plane is shipped when it is ripe and will be sold within a few days. 

“In the last few weeks the quality suffered due to the heavy rain. This caused quite high losses, even before the goods were packaged for export,” says the fruit expert, “We expect that the mango market will stabilize and consolidate in the coming weeks, especially the prices.”
