According to Sjoerd Meijer of import company Fruitmarket the mango was very popular product last week. "The volumes which arrived were less than in previous weeks. This was due to the Fruit Logistica, as less fruit is sent then in general."
He indicates that there are more containers coming in again next week. "I expect the demand to become slightly less, but continue to be good. At the moment the main origin on the market is the Peruvian mango. It is possible that a lost Brazilian mango might be found. It's raining in Brazil at the moment, so there are no more mangos available for export."
Better prices
Sjoerd says that the prices for Peruvian mangos were disappointing at the start of this year. "This was to do with a large supply. There were a lot of mangos coming from both Brazil and Peru. At the moment prices are going up again and are making between 4.50 and 6 Euro." The trader expects that the prices will remain the same next week as this week. "I think that little will happen over the next few weeks as far as price is concerned. It might go up a little."
