Good news for farmers. Now they can market their fruit in the domestic market without having to send them to the packers. Thus, producers will be able to send their pears and apples directly to the consumer, without any intermediaries.
Edgar Artero told LM Cipolletti that, during the final days of last week, farmers in the region received text messages about the possibility of conditioning and marketing fruit for the domestic market.
The text they received states: "You can condition and sell your fruit for the domestic market yourself. Please consult Senasa about this possibility." This means that the farmers that have the necessary facilities will be able to sell their products without having to send their products to exporting companies or intermediaries.
In recent years, producers had stated several times that, since Senasa didn't authorize them, they were unable to pack their own fruit and then sell it throughout the country.
The producers explained this situation to different national officials from the Agribusiness sector. Producers stated that, since they were unable to sell their apples and pears to the fruit companies, they should be able to market and sell them personally.
The fruit sector has always spoken about working in cooperatives. Some chambers of producers were able to build cold storage facilities with national contributions.
Given this possibility, this newspaper consulted several farmers. Some producers said they thought this was very difficult, as they already had to pay very high costs for their crops so they would need important economic help to finance their own packaging and make their own sales. Thus, they believe it is very difficult to move in that direction.
