Low prices and high volumes for cherries

Recently, cherries have become thebest-selling imported fruit. Prices of cherries normally fall between CNY 50 toCNY 60 for 500 grams. Nevertheless, the variety of cherries vary greatly withdifferent countries of origin and different qualities, with some selling at CNY58 for 500 grams and some other selling at as much as CNY 118 for 500 grams.

The cherries selling in Shenyang aresourced from Chile, Australia, and New Zealand. Fruit merchants sourcing fromthe Southern Hemisphere mainly rely on ship transport. Some do choose airtransport, when sales are strong enough that transport costs becomenegligible.

The entry customs point for cherries comingto Shenyang is Guangzhou, from there they are further transported to Shenyang. Perhapsit is a weather consideration, 80% of the fruits imported to Shenyang passthrough Guangzhou. Previously, cherries could be very expensive in traditionalshops, but with e-commerce entering the market, prices are kept competitive.
