The undersecretary of agricultural development in Sedagro stated that, 30 million pesos had been invested during 2015 for the establishment of fruit trees, such as avocado, walnut, peach, apple, prickly pear, prickly pear cactus, and maguey which would benefit more than 820 farmers in marginal rural areas of the state.
They said that, thanks to the states' concurrent program, they had been able to apply agricultural production and strategic projects, such as the establishment of fruit species with high commercial value (such as the commercial production of various warm temperate fruit crops in the state) in 2014.
In this sense, they said, in 2014 they established 475,278 plants of avocado, walnut, litchi, macadamia, sapodilla, mango, peach, apple, pear, plum, prickly pears, prickly pear cactus, and maguey, with an investment of more than 9.4 million pesos.
The resources were established in Tepehuacán, Tlanchinol, Lolotla, Tianguistengo, Zacualtipán, Huautla, San Agustin, Metzquititlan, Acatlan Atotonilco el Grande, Huasca, Ixmiquilpan, Huejutla, Yahualica, Epazoyucan, Tecozautla, Zempoala, Huichapan, and Actopan, benefiting 367 rural producers and their families.
Biologist Hugo Ramirez Rivera, secretary of Agricultural Development, said they had invested more than 9.5 million pesos to establish 68,545 plants of Hass avocado, improved Hass, and the Mendez variety with the technical support of specialists from Michoacan, particularly in the High Sierra, in Tepehuacán, Tlanchinol, Molango Calnali, Lolotla, Tianguistengo and Tenango de Doria.
Thus, we reconverted the low productive rangeland areas into orchards that will create higher incomes for producer in the medium, he said.
