Bizarre Jeep loading parade in Colombia

Colombia's annual Yipao parade involves Jeeps being loaded up with a vast array of goods to represent the family's wealth. It is astounding that some of the Jeeps in the parade can move at all given the vast collection of items loaded onto the roofs, which include fruit, vegetables, guitars, toilets and even pets, reports dailymail.co.uk.

Meaning 'fully-loaded Willy', Yipao seeks to celebrate the role the Willys MB Jeep models have in coffee-growing regions.

They were first introduced to the country in 1946 when the US Army began selling surplus vehicles to developing countries for discounted prices.

As they can travel up the mountainous areas carrying agricultural produce with ease, many were snapped up by farmers in the Quindío Department of western Colombia to replace mules. In areas with a lack of electricity, their running engines are also used to power generators and water pumps.

At the festival there are prizes for the largest amount of objects piled on top and the most creative displays.
