Michoacan produces 34% of Mexicam limes

Limes are a green and sour fruit native to Asia. It is also a perennial fruit, which means it can be harvested throughout the whole year. Its flowers, commonly called like the ones from the orange tree, are mainly used in medicine to calm people's nerves.

It is an excellent source of vitamin C, usually consumed in water and desserts, and it is an essential complement to meat and seafood. Limes are used as an ingredient in countless forms of beauty and health products, as it helps remove skin blemishes and tooth stains. They are also used as a deodorant, to relieve colds and as a purifier for the body.

In Mexico there is lime production throughout almost the entire national territory. The main producers of lime in the country are Michoacan and Veracruz, which account for 34 and 26 percent of the country's total production, respectively.

Mexico is the second biggest producer of lime in the world, with a production volume above 2,120,000 tons, i.e. 14 percent of world production. The US is the main destination of Mexican lime exports.

Lime is a very aromatic citrus fruit that can be bitter or sweet, depending on its variety. Lime is an important source of dietary fiber and vitamin C. The main lime producing state in Mexico is Jalisco.
