The Kinnow mandarin campaign is only just starting for the Pakistani producer and exporter Iftekhar Ahmed & Co, in a campaign in which exports are expected to drop by about 30-35%. Sales Manager Mr. Fawad Zafar explains that the winter season has actually been delayed, as the Kinnow needs the right temperature and at the moment the coloring is at 60-65% (it should be already at 80%).
Also due to climatic & unfavorable weather conditions like heavy storms and global warming eventually cause deficit in crop production and over all there are less yields of fruit per tree observed. Though canker disease is also reported in specific orchards it is not significant and effected orchards will not be utilized for the exports, he explained that institutions like the Plant Protection Department of Pakistan, PFVA and other official bodies are working to adopt good agriculture practices to increase crop yield, improve quality and prevent from spread of such diseases. Also focusing on Research & development to increase seasonal time length by introducing new varieties.
Zafar says that despite the delay in the coloring, which is associated with the sweetness level, weather & climatically unfavorable conditions are main points of concerns.

He affirms that the Indonesian market may, in fact, prove problematic this year. “Shipments normally start from the first of December, but China this year has had a bumper crop and only a few shippers may be able to export to Indonesia in December.
In January, there’s a speculation that the Indonesian government won’t issue the quota. Also a few print medias reported news that Indonesia would ban Pakistani kinnow for January 2016 but its not true. "Beyond the facts, there is no ban from Indonesia on Pakistan Kinnow. Even recently the Pakistan Fruits & Vegetables Association (PFVA) representatives had a meeting with Indonesian Counsel General Mr. Hadi Sentoso about this matter and the speculations going on. He assured the PFVA’s members that he will try to take all possible measures to avoid the uncertainty and to ensure smooth exports to Indonesia. For this reason, I believe the export volume will be down.
All in all from Pakistan, 35- 40% of the fruit is expected to go to Russia and the rest to other destinations like Ukraine, Hong Kong, Philippines, Mauritius, Indonesia, UAE and other Middle East countries.
