Year round blueberries
ABB Trading supplies blueberries year round, "We want to offer our own domestic production as long as possible. After the domestic season was over we introduced Peruvian and Argentinian blueberries. There was such a shortage in these two countries that barely any volumes were going to Europe, and many stayed in North America and Canada. Prices were very high, with a purchase price of 25 dollars per kilo. There was not enough supply and many Europeans pulled out because of the prices. Chile is currently on the market and they have more supply. This has resulted in a more normalized price and demand. As exporters we are now packaging the blueberries primarily for Central Europe, England and the Scandinavian countries. Blueberries are still being eaten in those countries. In any case, the consumption of blueberries is increasing worldwide. More and more people are recognizing the health benefits of blueberries."
Earlier on the market with their own production
Next year Theo would like to bring their own blueberries earlier on the market, "We usually start around May, but now we want to start a month earlier. As soon as spring hits there is demand from the Netherlands. And it is very disappointing not to be able to sell our blueberries at that time."
