The Spanish mango season has almost ended at Natural Tropic from Malaga. The Osteen season started with prices around 11 Euro and ended around 10 Euro. "Really, the prices were too high this year, which hindered sales. In comparison, we started with prices around 6 Euro last year," says Kenneth Meyer. "The sales of the organic mangos has been going very well, even those of the less popular large sizes."
Price declining slightly
Avocados are the main product at Natural Tropic. The company traditionally ends the Hass season in mid April and then switches to the import from Peru. "We are now in the Bacon season, there is 50% less of this and the Fuerte season will start soon. Prices are around 8.75/9 Euro and the price trend is a slight decrease," said Kenneth during the Fruit Attraction in Madrid.

Good market
Natural Tropic is the owner of 45 hectares, which is a completely new plantation. Due to exclusive collaboration with growers the company represents an area of over 100 hectares. Natural Tropic´s vision is to grow with the organic supply. "There is a good market for organic mangos and avocados. There aren't full trucks of them leaving, but there are always a few pallets."
The cherimoya production at Natural Tropic has also extended further. "Cherimoya remain a difficult product as far as shelf life is concerned. They are available from September to April and a large part of the supply remains in Spain, but we also sell cherimoyas to England. We are doing more trade than last year again, but it's not a volume product. The cherimoya is also a product with a huge price fluctuation, it´s like a roller-coaster sometimes," says Kenneth.
Potential in kumquats
And finally the producer also growers nisperos and kumquats. "The eating quality of the nisperos is great, but the product sometimes has peel damage and has to compete with production with lesser taste, but with better peel quality. The demand for kumquats is increasing. We mainly export the kumquats to Denmark, France and the Netherlands. We see a lot of potential in this product and want to do more with it over the next few years," concludes Kenneth.
