Janny MT flexible controlled atmosphere (CA) installation, invented and developed by the French company with the same name, is an efficient solution for the preservation of fruits, vegetables, mushrooms and flowers. They enable to combine controlled atmosphere with flexible and strategical storage management. Which offers quality and positive economic effects to the operators during harvest time or selling time.
"The Janny MT installation with 117 modules of 610 litre per unit (100x120x78 cm) and its lid - explains to FreshPlaza the general manager Benoit Janny - allows the control of the gas content (3% oxygen and 3% carbon dioxide) and relative humidity (100%). The Janny MT equipment is a natural process to be used in regular cold rooms, with temperatures between 0 and + 2° C, with some clear advantages. First of all, to keep freshness and crispness of the stored fruits; to store in natural controlled atmosphere conditions and, not least, to market the products over longer periods. This means flexibility in sales and consequent economic benefits."
In this sense, the experiences made by a cherries and plums producers group of Vignola, Italy, are meaningful. They maintained the cherries freshness using Janny MT modules and a gas analyzer in two different periods of time with the early variety Georgia and the Ferrovia one.
"Using the gas analyser - continues Benoit Janny - our team and the technical manager of the company were able to check daily the level of oxygen and carbon dioxide. After 25 days, the cherries looked just picked, with a good level of starch, green stems and good results for the producers."
Same results in Portugal, where some companies specialized in cherry production are using Janny MT modules: "Using these modules allow to keep a peaceful mind facing the market demand. Also thanks to a very interesting profitability".
Same positive results, if instead of cherries, we talk about apples and pears. "According to the producers of apples and cherries in the French region Vaucluse, they were able to enjoy a qualitative advantage throughout the season with more attractive fruits, lasting longer during the storage. Products are longer preserved in the most natural way, since the breathing of the fruit is the real engine of this controlled atmosphere preservation. No gas or chemicals added or even additional energy consumption required. Moreover, our company carries out an investment study on economic return for growers and provides a financing option that allows to capitalize before starting to pay the modules".
The Janny MT equipment can be used on several products during the harvest seasons. It allows long preservation of many fruits, vegetables, flowers and mushrooms. Thanks to this flexibility, the growers can amortize faster the investment in Janny MT post-harvest installation.

The French company is participating for the fourth year at Fruit Attraction in Madrid (Pav. 9 - Stand 9F06) where they will show the Janny MT modules and the gas analyser for oxygen and carbon dioxide, that are required to reach the optimal CA conditions in the classic cold rooms. The objective is clear: to promote these systems and propose to fruits and vegetable producers of the Mediterranean area post-harvest solutions that will help them manage their production, quality and markets. To present the products at the fair will be Aurélie Puech, sales manager for the Mediterranean area.
