Low Argentine blueberry volumes due to weather

Low temperatures in Argentina have an impact on the volumes the markets are receiving from this country. It is estimated that production will resume its normal rhythm as of week 43/44.

The late spring frosts are the main focus of attention of Argentine producers; however, nobody expected such a low start of the 2015 season. In addition, the NiƱo threat is still dormant, since the weather forecast anticipates a rainy season.

Consequently, the Argentine Blueberries Committee (ABC) doubts that the auspicious estimates of week 37 will be fulfilled; in fact, everything points to a 12% decrease of the fruit volume in comparison to season 2014, which would mean a total of around 14,500 tons for Argentina.

As regards prices, importers will have to resign to continue paying high prices for the Argentine fruit, even though this does not compensate Argentine producers, who are suffering this circumstance and the losses caused by hails and frost.

It is expected that production will resume its normal rhythm as of week 43/44, bringing a breath of fresh air to blueberries producers and exporters in our country.
