Greece: Free lunch for 5,000 to tackle fruit and veg waste

Under the slogan "Throw nothing away", a free lunch for 5,000 people will be organised this Sunday, 11 October, at the Kotzia square, in Athens. The initiative is part of a global campaign to combat food waste.

The meal is open to everyone and will be prepared by the Chefs Club of Northern Greece using vegetables and fruits which were to be discarded or thrown out because of their appearance as basic ingredients.

From 12:00 to 17:00, an institutional cooperation of hundreds of volunteers and supporters will welcome the public to enjoy the main meal (a huge briam!), which will be prepared with vegetables supplied by the Central Vegetable Market of Rentis, distribution companies and individual producers.
