National cooperation to support fresh product trade

Cold storage cluster investments in Tianjin port

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Finance and the National Standards Committee have jointly decided that Tianjin, Shijiazhuang and Tangshan will become pilot cities to invest in and improve cold chain logistics.

With this opportunity, the Tianjin Commerce Committee plans to build cold storage clusters to facilitate Tianjin, Beijing and Hebei province. “Tianjin and Beijing aim to build a fully functional cold chain logistics supply system for fresh products. The goal is to build a competitive cold chain logistic support system within the coming five years,” according to Guanqun Xu from Tianjin Commerce Committee.

The construction of modern cold storages has started in Tianjin. Until now, 43 cold storages have been built with a total capacity of 760,000 tons. More than 10 transport companies have been encouraged to improve their cold chain distribution capabilities which will be within reach of 650 delivery locations.

A one-hour cold chain logistics system will be established in Tianjin to deliver fresh goods to surrounding cities such as Beijing. The other two pilot cities, Shijiazhuang and Tangshan, are also improving their cold chain logistics to make closer cooperation possible with Tianjin, Beijing and Hebei province.
