The Egyptian pomegranate season is just around the corner, and for the company Jana Fresh, a specialist packer and exporter of fresh fruits and vegetables based in the western Delta area, exports of the Wonderful variety will kick off in just a few days. “Our main destinations are in the Far East; Malaysia, Indonesia, as well as the Gulf Countries,” says Export Manager Abdelrahman Mahrous.
Jana Fresh’s fruit is exclusively outsourced from farms under the full control of the firm’s technical team. “We are expecting to do about 20 containers this season, compared to 5 in the previous campaign.” He explains this growth is the result not only of having gained access to more farms which is down to building good relationships with them but also, understanding the requirements from both the market and the clients.”
The advantage the company offers to fruit’s importers, especially in South East Asia, is the fact that the pomegranates are supplied in MA bags. “This means they can store them for up to 90 days, allowing them to wait for the right market conditions,” assures Mr Mahrous.
For their part, consumers demand a clean fruit, with a good red colour, sweet flavour and soft arils, and anything you have within these specifications can be sold to these countries.
Jana Fresh is strongly committed to improving its selection and shipment process based on feedback from its clients. Mr Mahrous concludes that, given the situation in Yemen and the fact that the Indian season is almost over, Egyptian pomegranates have a great window in Malaysia and Indonesia. It will all be down to offering the best quality at a good price.
