REI yellow melon showcased at Frutal 2015

Itaueira, which grows the REI melons all year round, participated during the 1st week of September, at Frutal 2015, the 22th International Week of Fruit Crops, Floriculture and Agro-Industry. With the main theme of "Optimization of water use in agricultural production", the best technologies and drought coexistence projects were discussed during the event.

According to Adriana Prado, export manager from Itaueira, it was an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences and show their products to the market. "The quality of the fruit that we presented during Frutal was the result of planned actions on sustainability, cultivation care, a lot of research, work and dedication" she says.

Itaueira operates throughout the production melon chain, from the production of plants in nurseries using exclusive seeds to field planting, harvesting, packaging and cooling, to delivery to distributors and retailers. In order to produce the tastiest melon for the domestic and international market, Itaueira has developed its own innovative growing method, including what is most modern in terms of soil preparation, planting, irrigation, fertilization, harvest and post-harvest, cleaning and staff training, adopting the use of agricultural mechanization.

Itaueira's main marketing tools are tasting demos of their products under their slogan, "I'm Delicious", along with presenting the REI melon packaging. Booth visitors had the opportunity to taste the REI Yellow melon, REI Piel de Sapo melon, REI Galia melon, REI and the Magali baby seedless watermelon.

New in 2015 – Magali Baby Seedless Watermelon
During Frutal 2015, Itaueira presented its Magali Baby seedless plump watermelons, with green skin and deep red pulp. The watermelon has micro edible seeds which is why it is known in the market as "seedless". The small size takes up less space in the fridge; fruit preparation for consumption is much easier, as there is no need to remove the seeds. The Magali character on the packaging, the red color of the pulp and honey flavor attracts children and encourages consumption. The Magali name was based on a popular comic book in Brazil, where the character is a young girl who loves to eat and is a member of Monica’s gang (Turma da Monica). Watermelons are her passion.

The Mini Watermelon Magali was developed in partnership with Mauricio de Sousa Productions to increase consumption of fruit by children and youth.

Sustainability and preservation of the environment are Itaueira main concerns. The farms in the states of Piauí, Ceará and Bahia provides fruits all year round. To avoid safety issues, the company only sells its own production. In addition to providing the REI melons throughout Brazil, Itaueira exports to the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Russia and the Middle East and first shipments to Chile are expected to start this year.
