"Actively looking for new markets for our customers"

Fresh Express now at Brussels Airport

Fresh Express, the recently established logistics provider for freight perishables in Liege, will also have a branch at Brucargo next to Brussels Airport by mid-September. Tom Gemels and Jonathan Bouchat started their agency in May in Liege, Belgium and they see the benefits of the Brucargo location, "The main motivation to start a second branch is to meet the demands of our customers," explains Tom.

Jonathan says, "Right now at Brucargo there is just one service with the same activities, with a definite monopoly. Demand has only increased recently. Various international clients have been asking about our rates and what we can do. In Liege we offer other possibilities and services as the middle-man. We have actively looked for markets within Europe for 30% of our customers, and that has definitely been a success. We want to do this in Brucargo now as well."

Generating markets
Fresh Express's specialty is to actively seek out buyers for their customers. Tom gave a few examples, including finding a new market in Belgium for a customer of theirs in Rotterdam, "We found a new export market in Israel for a customer of ours in Switzerland. We are working on new import products through a contact in Iceland."

Tom believes that you should approach customers in a special way, "Focusing mainly on lower rates is not a long-term vision. If you look for new markets for export, you often generate new import. We have built up some great relationships and we are trying to emphasize Israel's export market for fish. The big players at Brussels Airport are fixated on the large freight volumes, while we try to support the smaller customers in new markets as well."

At Brussels Airport, Fresh Express is still in negotiations regarding entering into a joint venture with a major international player.
