First Victoria plums at Total Edinburgh

Total Edinburgh saw the first Victoria plums arrive last week, Ernie Miller, Commercial Sales Manager, said that the size was good and eating superb.

"The plum market in our Edinburgh depot is okay just now, but as we are going into the season we are hoping to get some UK plum promotions through our retail pack-house where we supply retail stores throughout Scotland. As for volumes, its difficult to say as it depends on what pack size, price etc. we will be packing for the retail stores, this is where we can get most volume," explains Ernie.

The Victoria plum season only lasts around six weeks, (dependent on weather and volume) the ones supplied to Edinburgh at the moment are grown in Evesham. According to Ernie Scottish Victorias used to be widely grown but unfortunately now this is no longer the case, although they do work with a grower in Fife who has small amounts each year.

"The Victoria plums have a unique flavour of their own and in this day and age where all produce is available most of the year round in some form, they are one of the few products left that have a proper season which means you know you’re in the heart of summer when you taste the first Vic of the year," concludes Ernie.
