Willem Fiering, Anaco Greeve:

"Early Ramadan unfavourable for Barhi date season"

The date season has started at Anaco Greeve again, with the new harvest of Barhi dates from its Israeli supplier Flower Board Israel (FBI). "Last week the first Barhi dates arrived by plane and yesterday we got the first containers in," says Willem Fiering. The Barhi date has a juicy sweet flavour, a yellow colour and is mainly sold on the branch.

The Barhi dates are sold in 5 kg boxes. Over 27 Euro was paid for the airfreight dates last week. Now the price for the 'boat trade' is around 18 Euro. "The quality is fine and the demand is wide. In other years the Barhri date was a popular item during Ramadan, but due to Ramadan falling early this year, this was not an option.
