Peru increased biannual mango exports by 26.2%

According to Comexperu, since 2010, mango exports have been growing at an average annual rate of 11.5 percent.

Despite the 15.5% drop suffered by Peruvian exports in the first six months of 2015, shipments of fresh or dried mango, which amounted to $151 million dollars, increased by 26.2% year on year in the same period. The mango was the third non-traditional agricultural product with the highest export value between January and June of this year, according to Comexperu.

Regarding the main markets, 41% of the mango exports were made to the Netherlands ($62 million dollars), 30% to the United States ($45 million), and 11% to the United Kingdom ($16 million).

Among the main exporters of mangoes are Dominus and Camposol, both with shipments of nearly US $11 million (- 11% and - 0.6%, respectively); Sunshine Export, with $10 million dollars (- 1.3%), and Frutos Tropicales del Norte and FLP del Peru, with $7 million dollars each (+ 420.2% and - 0.1% respectively).

According to Comexperu, another product that has also contributed to the growth of non-traditional agro-exports was the asparagus, fresh or chilled. According to data from Sunat, asparagus shipments in the first half of 2015 amounted to $145 million dollars, 17.2% more than in the same period of 2014. Since 2010, asparagus exports have grown at an annual average rate of 7.2%.
