The Hills Orchard Improvement Group (HOIG) has named the Karragullen Expo theme: ‘Tree to Table’.
‘Tree to Table’ serves to inform the public on how stonefruit, pomefruit and avocados are grown and processed on the way to supermarkets and farmer's markets. The day promises unprecedented access to the public. Visitors will see an orchard site in bloom and with fruit on the trees, plus the grading, packing, storage and transport facilities associated with fresh fruit production.
Expo organisers also promise fresh produce displays, an abundance of value-added lines, and free children's activities, including Old Macdonald’s petting farm. For the adults there will be a licensed bar, spit roast at 5pm, wine and boutique beer sampling and sales.
All visitors will be able to enjoy all-day food vendors, horticultural machinery and trade displays, free fruit giveaways, plant nurseries, fruit kebab making at the Crunch n Sip hall,
HOIG will be selling fruiting trees at wholesale prices and will have an associated free Mediterranean Fruit Fly information stall right next door to the tree sales.
After last year's success with Vince Garreffa, there will be a celebrity chef on site using local produce to showcase the versatility and flavours of fresh WA produce.
Children under 12 will have free entry, and adult entry is $10
Pensioner entry is $5.
With the 2014 Expo shattering previous attendance records, with 7,000 people through the gate, this year’s Expo promises to be bigger and better than ever.
The Karragullen Expo is an annual event located on Old Station Road, Karragullen, and will be held this year on Saturday, 10th of October. A free bus service will be available on the day of the Expo, which will transport interested attendees to nearby orchards at 11am and 2.30pm.
